UFC legend Conor McGregor has reacted in a major way to the shocking news of Ryan Garcia’s positive drugs test, which will likely result in his career-best win being declared as a no-contest – if not a win for Devin Haney via disqualification.
Garcia’s pre-fight behaviour grabbed headlines and gripped fans as the 25-year-old seemed set to step through the ropes with his mind elsewhere, smoking marijuana, faking his own death and then weighing in on the scales with a ‘beer’ in hand – scales on which he weighed-in over three pounds above the super-lightweight limit and thus forgiving the chance to fight for Haney’s world title.
However, on fight night it was a different story. Garcia surprised the world of boxing with a generational display, dropping the undefeated champion for the first, second and third time of his career on his way to a majority-decision win which, despite the asterisk of his weight, saw Garcia cement his place amongst the biggest names in boxing once again.
Yet, that asterisk of his weight has since been outdone by another physical advantage, as Garcia’s drug tests show that he tested positive for Ostarine on both the day of the weigh-in and the day of the fight.
In a recently-deleted tweet, Conor McGregor did not hold back in his criticism of ‘King Ry’ and went on to accuse UFC bantamweight champion and friend of Garcia’s, Sean O’Malley, of taking the same banned substance before demanding that Garcia either ‘gets his head together’ or ‘k***s himself’.
“Cheated the weight and was juiced, lifetime ban. Sad to see, sad to say. Sad and a bit sick. Don’t come near me if I see you ever Ryan Garcia. I am actually disgusted.
“This Ostarine, it reminds me of Sean O’Malley, [he] was on that as well. I don’t like this, I will bust you’s both up. Do you want a spar? I will set flights right now for you both for a full on spar each. Hotel, Black Forge Inn, the lot.
“#LetsSparOMalley and #Garcia, two little Ostarine heads, I will ride you’s both like you are ostriches. WTF is up. What do you think that you are at? If I was Haney’s Dad, you’re dead no matter what for doing that.
“Crazy. What the f**k happened to you? You little fool. Get your head together because I [am] gonna smash it in with [my] elbows if you don’t. Fair play Devin, well done. Your performance has just become even more heroic! Bravo.
“GET YOUR HEAD TOGETHER [Ryan Garcia] OR K**L YOURSELF.”
The outcome of the bout is likely to be altered, but for now the investigation is being led by the NYSAC, as Garcia and his team await a career-defining result.
