The destructive former 2-weight world champion offered his advice to his old rival Chris Eubank Sr’s son, Eubank Jr following his elimination from the World Boxing Super Series at the hands of George Groves, on Saturday night.
Benn won world titles at both middleweight and super-middleweight. The two weights that the ‘nextgen’ version of Eubank has campaigned at in his career.
Benn grew in stature and became an even more deadly puncher when he moved up in weight.

But after watching Eubank barely make a dent in Groves after unloading his whole arsenal Benn believes that Eubank will be better served at the 160 lbs limit.
“I think you have to just get back down to middleweight,” said Benn in a new Twitter video.
But Nigel Benn was quick to add that however despite feeling he would be better served to campaign at middleweight, that he would be wise to not take on championship calibre opposition.
“Not to challenge Billy Joe [Saunders] or [Gennady] Golovkin, who are just a different class. If it was one of them two [on Saturday night], you would’ve been smashed to bits.

But crucially it has become common knowledge that perhaps Eubank Sr’s influence over his son is somewhat detrimental. Benn has advised Eubank Jr to part ways from his father.
“Cut that umbilical cord from your dad.”
Benn advised his rival’s son to bring aboard a proper trainer so that he can step out of his dad’s shadow.
“Listen to your trainer. Start again. You’ve got talent to be world champion but you need to be your own man.”
“You’ve got to start listening to your trainer, not your dad.”

On a final note, Benn ended his comments on a kind note. Benn encouraged Eubank by saying it is his time and says he absolutely must make a comeback.
“It’s your time to shine – you’ve got to come back.”
