Despite a long career, Derek Chisora has recently said he will battle on and has one heavyweight in his sights.
The man who calls himself ‘WAR’ because of his all-out offensive style is coming off the back of a unanimous 10-round points decision over Gerald Washington in August.
That came after losing to Tyson Fury, Joseph Parker, twice, and Oleksandr Usyk in the last three years. Though some have called for him to retire, he has often reiterated his intent to carry on.
Speaking to Boxing Social, ‘Del Boy’ was asked when he’ll be back in the ring and admitted he is eyeing up just one man.
“Soon. I want the Chinese guy.”
The man of which he speaks is, of course, Zhilei Zhang. The 6′ 6″ powerhouse has quickly become one of the top-rated contenders in the heavyweight division following two impressive stoppage victories over Brit Joe Joyce.
Both have come in quick succession in 2023 and seen ‘Big Bang’ with the WBA mandatory status, which means he stands a good chance of being called to fight the winner of the undisputed world heavyweight clash between Tyson Fury – who he has long said he wants to fight – and Oleksandr Usyk.
The only loss in Zhang’s 27-fight career was a controversial one to Filip Hrgovic in August 2022 which many fans thought he won.
The fight would represent a huge challenge for Chisora who has more miles on the clock. Despite his eagerness, Zhang has told him to ‘wait in line.’
The 40-year-old from China has also been mentioned alongside Anthony Joshua – a fight his team are much more keen on.
