Devin Haney has his hands full with Ryan Garcia this weekend but should he come through that fight his promoter Eddie Hearn has already lined up a potential next fight for him.
Haney is one of the most talented world champions currently active in the sport. He holds the WBC super lightweight title having won it at the first time of asking against Regis Prograis last time out, and has also previously been undisputed world lightweight champion.
The build-up to his fight with Garcia which takes place tonight at the Barclays Centre has been marred by controversial wars of words, physical altercations, and lots of trash talk right up to the last moment, including doubts over the state of Garcia’s mental health.
Speaking to Boxing Social, Hearn was asked about whether or not Matchroom’s new signing Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis might be a suitable opponent for Haney one day should ‘The Dream’ move up in weight once more to the welterweight division.
“It all depends on how long Jaron stays at 147 but now we have a nice path at 147 to make those unification fights. There are guys available to be paid well and make big unification. Boots has to take care of his mandatory Cody Crowley first then we can move on.”
Should both men come through their next fights, this could be a mouth-watering clash at some point in the future if a decision can be made about which weight it would be at.
