“Truckloads of money, truckloads,” said Eddie Hearn when talking about the payday that was Mayweather-McGregor.
And because of that we just might see more MMA versus Boxing bouts in the future simply because it brings the two masses together – at least on paper.
Tony Bellew and Michael Bisping recently agreed to a fight verbally on social media. Bellew has since said that he doesn’t want to fight in a boxing ring but in a cage instead.
Eddie Hearn, Bellew’s promoter, touched on the issue that the Burnett-Zhakiyanov press conference and clarified the situation.
“I tell Tony Bellew that’s fight not happening. I’m not interested in that fight,” said Hearn at first in an interview with IFL.TV.
But he then quickly changed his tone when talking about the possible payout. Still, Hearn wants to focus more on Bellew’s boxing career.
“We can never rule anything out, but Tony Bellew is still in a stage of trying to create a legacy through his own boxing career. He’s won a cruiserweight world title. He could win a heavyweight world title. He’s beaten David Haye. Those kinda fights are fights you take,” explained Hearn.
“Look at Floyd, the McGregor fight was never going to do anything to his legacy, it’s already complete.”
Hearn then repeated that there is always a possibility for a Bisping fight simply because; if it makes money, it makes sense. He also talked about Bellew’s huge interest in the UFC.
“Listen, if the money is crazy… I guess we can never rule out a Bisping fight but it’s not on the agenda for the next one. It’s not been discussed,” he said
Tony Bellew the boxer or Bellew… the wrestler?
“Tony’s been texting me lately about how good he is at wrestling and taking people down. He’s a mad UFC fan. He follows everyone. He’s got a few moves. Tony will fight anyone. I told Tony that ‘don’t worry about BIsping, let’s concentrate on the next one’.”
Bisping is out of the picture – for now. Bellew’s next fight will happen in December but the Liverpudlian is still without an opponent.
