Eddie Hearn’s war of words with promotional rival Boxxer continues as the Matchroom CEO has a damning response to them pulling one of their fighters out of a recent purse bid.
There has been some ongoing tension between Matchroom and Boxxer for a while over a number of issues. Back in February, Hearn teased that he would one day love to sign Boxxer’s light heavyweight prospect Ben Whittaker to his own stable.
There have also been arguments over previous purse bids involving Fabio Wardley and Boxxer’s Frazer Clarke after the fight failed to materialise last year. It finally happened this past weekend and was a superb contest that was well worth the wait.
After that issue arose, it was revealed that Matchroom’s Dalton Smith and Boxxer’s Adam Azim were slated to battle for both British and European titles, bringing together two promising undefeated fighters.
However, an obstacle arose from their affiliations with different promotional teams and led Hearn to goad Boxxer and say they would pull their man out of the negotiation, which is what they have now done.
Hearn spoke about this on Matchroom Boxing’s YouTube channel.
“You can talk about we’re a victim of the game and they don’t want to work with us, it’s absolutely rubbish, you’ve only got to look at the facts.
“When we were working on negotiations for the Fabio Wardley Frazer Clarke purse bid they pulled out of negotiations and they’ve just done it again with Azim and Dalton Smith. It’s hilarious.
“You’re seeing the benefit of Matchroom and Queensberry working together. It’s projected both of us to another level. And to be fair, we would have won every one of [the purse bids].”
It seems Azim, for now, is heading in another direction and will be taking on Harlem Eubank.
