Eddie Hearn believes he promotes the biggest UK ticket seller since Manchester’s boxing legend, Ricky Hatton, in the form of Essex heavyweight Johnny Fisher.
The undefeated 23-year-old, nicknamed ‘The Romford Bull’, has been popular even since his debut in early 2021, but since then his fame has risen ten-fold. In less than two years, Fisher has won all seven of his fights, with six knockout victories and is fast-becoming a household name due to his ability in the ring as well as his personality outside of it.
Fisher and his Dad ‘Big John’ are popular amongst both boxing and non-boxing fans and have built up an incredible social media following, combining for 163k Instagram followers and an astonishing 375k followers on TikTok. The pair have often gone viral for demolishing Chinese takeaways and coining the catchphrase ‘bosh’, but promoter Hearn believes that he is a genuine title prospect and not just a fan-favourite, he said in a clip on Fisher’s Instagram.
“This isn’t a ticket seller. This is a prospect who I believe can go on and win titles in the division. He just so happens to be the biggest ticket seller this country has ever seen, since Ricky Hatton.”
The combination of his social media antics and regular fighting has put Fisher in a fantastic position, with fans already calling for English and British title fights at the young age of just 23. With the demand for his fights already high, a title win could skyrocket his popularity and Hearn may well be proved right if Fisher can announce himself onto the world stage in the coming years.
