Errol Spence Jr is quickly garnering a reputation as one of the most fearsome presences on the world boxing scene. The undefeated IBF world welterweight champion will return to the ring on June 16 when he fulfils his mandatory obligations by looking to fight challenger, Carlos Ocampo.
Spence will look to make the second defence of his maiden title when he takes on the Mexican in front of a hometown crowd in Dallas.
Spence shared his belief that he is the best active fighter operating at the limit of 147 lbs.
Spence first real step up in opposition came when he travelled to England and brutally overran the work rate of the former champion, Kell Brook to take the title back to America.
Spence followed up on that impressive performance by then crushing former 2-weight world champion, Lamont Peterson over the course of eight rounds.
“I do believe I’m the best welterweight in boxing right now. I’ve been trying to prove it for a long time.”
‘The Truth’ now claims he is willing and prepared to take on any of the elite contenders in the division.
“I’m never looking past anyone, but I’d love to fight Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter and when he’s back, Keith Thurman.”
Spence is willing and able to take on any challenger to his world title.
“I’m ready to fight the best in the division and prove I reign supreme over all of them,” Spence said.
Spence has underlined he will not be falling into the same trap, that fighters of the past have.
The ferocious Texan is not overlooking his next opponent because of his youth and the great pride Mexican fighters bear when they climb those ring steps.
“Everybody poses a challenge in the ring. Ocampo is tough. He’s young and this is something he’s been fighting for his whole life.”
“I know he’s coming to fight. Mexican fighters have a great tradition. They come to fight and they don’t back down.”
“I know he’s going to give it his all and that gets me motivated,” Spence said.
The 28-year-old Spence also says he will be looking to fight in his all to familiar style and look to record the 21st knockout of his career on June 16.
“My motto is ‘Man Down’ and I have to live up to it. I don’t go in looking for the knockout, but I let it happen naturally.”
“I let it come to me and we’re definitely going to let it happen on fight night.”
