Queensberry Promoter Frank Warren has reacted angrily to talkSPORT’s Adam Catterall, after the presenter questioned the legitimacy of Tyson Fury’s cut, which caused the Brit to pull out of the undisputed heavyweight title clash.
Last week, Queensberry announced that Fury had been forced to withdraw from his hotly-anticipated bout against Oleksandr Usyk, as a result of a cut that he had picked up in sparring and Catterall publicly doubted the truth of those claims.
In an interview with The Fight Wire, Warren fumed at Catterall’s comments and threatened to sue Catterall if he fails to apologise.
“Adam Catterall, I can’t even believe that talkSPORT use him to talk about boxing, he spouts the biggest pile of garbage ever and it is slanderous what he has said. ‘No timelines on the photo, how do we know it is real?’, that is slanderous.
“He will be getting a solicitors letter from me on Monday and he will be apologising for what he has said and for what he is saying. He [Fury] is cut, he has got fifteen stitches on his eye and for that idiot to be coming out for what he comes out with is beyond a joke.”
Warren went on further with his assessment of the situation.
“I do expect it from [talkSPORT], I didn’t used to with Adam and we have done a podcast together. It’s just so disappointing and so stupid.
“What does he think? That people are spending millions upon millions promoting fights, hundreds of thousands of pounds bringing in sparring partners, and it is not a cut? He is out there in Riyadh, does he think that his excellency and the doctors haven’t seen it? What a stupid remark to make, that tells you where he is coming from and it tells you his agenda.
“If he doesn’t apologise for what he has said, I will personally sue him.”
Fury-Usyk has now been rescheduled for May 18th, although some sceptics still doubt whether it will go ahead.
