18-year-old heavyweight prospect, Moses Itauma, has signed his first professional contract, teaming up with Frank Warren and Queensbury Promotions.
Moses, brother of Queensbury’s light heavyweight Karol Itauma, is a two-time National champion and has won gold at School, Junior, European and recently World level.
Itauma is unbeaten in his 24 fights as an amateur and joins Warren with high praise from some of the world’s top heavyweights.
At the age of fourteen and fifteen, Itauma was sparring the likes of Lawrence Okolie, Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua and, in his own words, ‘holding his own’.
However, it is title challenger Joe Joyce who was singing his highest praises. According to Warren, ‘The Juggernaut’ said Itauma was one of his toughest ever spars despite him being just fifteen years old at the time.
Following the announcement, hall of fame promoter Frank Warren boasted of the quality of his new prospect in an interview on Queensbury’s website.
“The booming British heavyweight division has now got a new player and this one is going right to the very top.”
“For very obvious reasons, Moses was a young man in demand and I am thrilled that he has chosen Queensberry to guide and promote his career.”
“We are the ones with a proven track record of taking young fighters to major title success and Moses is going to be in good company with our other elite prospects already taking steps forward in the professional ranks.”
“Moses is an exceptional talent who is going to further light up the heavyweight scene in this country and globally.”
“Moses possesses the ability to be a heavyweight great and I am sure the nation will get behind him and support his crusade to become a record-breaking world champion.”
Francis Warren, Frank’s son, will be managing Itauma and claimed that ‘the future of the heavyweight boxing is in safe hands with Moses, who is destined to become a world champion and dominate the scene for many years to come.’
The confidence from the Warren family is there for all to see and there is sure to be similar excitement from fans if the youngster can impress on his debut.
Queensbury have announced that his first professional bout will be confirmed at a press conference on Thursday 5th January, with rumours already circling that it could be on the undercard of Artur Beterbiev versus Anthony Yarde.
