Another mammoth weekend of boxing kicks off on Friday night with heavyweight prospect, David Adeleye, Commonwealth titles in Liverpool and the return of former world champion, Adrien Broner.
David Adeleye vs Emir Ahmatovic
David Adeleye (11-0) challenges Germany’s Emir Ahmatovic (12-1), whose maiden defeat comes to world title contender, Filip Hrgovic, for the WBO European Heavyweight title.
Adeleye has knocked out ten of his eleven opponents as a professional thus far, with the ever-durable Kamil Sokolowksi the only man to have taken him to the final bell. All of these stoppages have come in the fourth-round or sooner, so expect a fast start from the up-and-coming Brit.
The undercard features the likes of Mark Chamberlain and Tommy Fletcher in what is a solid event at York Hall that will be available to watch live on BT Sport 1 from 7pm.
Conor Butler vs Matt Windle
Meanwhile, Liverpool plays host to a Commonwealth title double-header as flyweight, Conor Butler (10-0-1), defends his undefeated record and challenges for the belt against Birmingham’s Matt Windle (7-4-1), with the vacant EBU European title also up for grabs.
Windle won the belt in a victory over Craig Derbyshire in Malta in February and returns to make his first defence against the unbeaten 25-year-old, with both men hoping that a win will put them in a position to fight for Jay Harris’ British title.
Fresh from his British super-flyweight title draw, Marcel Braithwaite (14-3-1) also returns to action facing former EBU Bantamweight champion and local lad, Ryan Farrag (21-4), with the Commonwealth super-flyweight strap on the line. The event can be watched on both FightZone and BBC iPlayer from 7pm.
Adrien Broner vs Bill Hutchinson
Over in the States, four-weight world champion, Adrien Broner (34-4-1), fights for just the second time in over four years, as he faces off against Bill Hutchinson (20-2-4).
Broner is attempting a comeback to the peak of the sport and boxing fanatics will be intrigued to see how he looks on his return, which is promoted by Don King and available to purchase on FITE TV.
