The back-and-forth beef between Carl Froch and John Fury has continued to escalate but now one commentator has branded both men ‘ridiculous.’
When Tyson Fury announced he had been cut in sparring and therefore his undisputed clash with Oleksandr Usyk would be delayed from February 17 to May 18, the world went mad with theories and speculation.
One man leading that was former champion Froch who was suspicious of the cut and started asking questions about the protections they put in place to prevent such a thing from happening.
He then went on to question the entire CV of Fury, pulling it apart, flaming that the Wilder wins were not as good as people thought, and that his best victory was against an old champion in Wladimir Klitschko.
The face of TalkSport Boxing, Simon Jordan, then came out on Wednesday’s White and Jordan show to say he’d had enough of the whole situation.
“I’ve never seen a world champion have his father so prevalent in the media. Maybe, somehow, we’re all responsible for this.”
He then seemed to show some support for Froch’s views on Fury’s CV,
“Some of these observations, it started on a premise that Carl Froch suggested Tyson Fury’s record needs to be analysed as he’s fought six world title fights, three against the same fella, and two against people he’s already beaten, and one against Wladimir Klitschko.
“That has now turned into the underlying narrative that if anyone criticises a Fury they are a hater, they should be banned, and is trying to profit off their name. Forgetting the fact these guys made their money via the media because the media highlights, promotes and accentuates their opportunity. I think it’s ridiculous.”
Finally, he admitted that he thinks the cut is legitimate but said that the more Fury is in the news, the more people turn off.
“I don’t doubt his integrity about a cut, but what I don’t doubt is the reaction to Fury is becoming more and more ambivalent, which it shouldn’t be because he’s the heavyweight champion of the world and a British one.”
