Eddie Hearn has revealed the identity of the fighter who is most likely to be Anthony Joshua’s next opponent.
Joshua successfully came through his comeback fight with Jermaine Franklin this past weekend, and Hearn has stated his desire to get his prized heavyweight back out in July.
In an interview with ID Boxing, it came as little surprise when Hearn said the current ‘frontrunner’ for this date was old Joshua foe Dillian Whyte.
“I think there are a lot of people who think Dillian Whyte would have a great chance in that fight. So I think it’s a big fight. But there are a lot of talks to be had.”
“Would I say he’s a frontrunner? Probably, if we don’t go into a Wilder or a Fury fight.”
“We’ll have to see, because Dillian would quite like a fight before then as well.”
Though ‘AJ’ won comfortably on all three judges’ scorecards against Franklin, he failed to deliver the highlight reel knockout many were hoping for and question marks still remain regarding what he has left to offer in the sport
‘The Bodysnatcher’ was working as part of the DAZN broadcast team at the 02 on Saturday night, and pulled no punches in his assessment of Joshua’s performance
Joshua and Whyte are well accustomed to sharing the ring with one and other, having locked horns in both the amateur and professional ranks, with both currently boasting one victory over the other.
Whyte got the better of Joshua when the pair met as unpaid novices, before Joshua settled the scores in a memorable British heavyweight title fight back in 2015, when he stopped Whyte in the sixth round with a once trademark uppercut.
