Oscar De La Hoya says he is the only man that can make a Ryan Garcia-Gervonta Davis fight happen.
The Golden Boy Promotions promoter was talking on Instagram Live (recorded by FightHype) after a packed-out crowd at the Crypto.com Arena witnessed his biggest star take Javier Fortuna apart in six rounds on Saturday night.
The win took the 23-year-old’s career to 23 fights without defeat in what was his debut at Super Lightweight.
Looking to the future the subject of a fight against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis is the only thing De La Hoya and Garcia are talking about.
While lying in bed next to his girlfriend Holly Sonders the former six-weight world champion held an audience with his Instagram followers.
“What do you think about the promoter? Me right here, is the only guy that can make Ryan Garcia versus Tank Davis. What do you guys think about that? Nobody else can make it.”
“I want to talk to Tank Davis’ promoter and make that fight happen.”
The 49-year-old went on to ask those watching what they thought of Garcia’s performance and if he still had something to prove. He then responded to someone who posted ‘Ryan Garcia-Tank Davis, end of the year’.
“I will make it happen. Just me. I will make it happen. Nobody else can make it happen. I don’t know who I have to talk to. [Floyd] Mayweather? Or Al Haymon? I do not know.”
“I’m going to start making calls. But the only one who can make it happen is me and Ryan Garcia. Mayweather let’s make it happen. What do you guys think?”
During the build-up to his last fight Davis led many to believe that he was leaving Mayweather Promotions which would have made him the hottest free agent in boxing.
In a separate Insta post on Monday De La Hoya said he believed that the 27-year-old would re-sign with Mayweather.
Followers were also invited to ask questions on the social media platform which ‘The Golden Boy’ responded to.
Why does Ryan keep avoiding Tank?
“He’s not avoiding him Ryan wants the fight.”
Is the Tank fight really gonna be able to happen?
“It happens only if Tank pushes for it.”
Floyd Mayweather, who beat De La Hoya during their own super-fight in 2007, has hinted that any future fight for Davis will be kept in-house at Mayweather Promotions and Premier Boxing Champions.
A couple of hours later back on Instagram De La Hoya made another push for the Garcia-Davis fight to happen.
“The bottom line is we want to make the fight happen. Tank Davis have your people call my people or my people call your people.”
“Should be on Showtime and DAZN because they’re the broadcasting partners for each individual. It’s only fair. And we can stage it in Las Vegas, easy as that. Let’s go.”
