George Foreman has kept a keen eye on the heavyweight division since his retirement – and there’s one fight he wants to see take place before it’s too late.
‘Big’ George made history with a championship comeback following a ten-year hiatus from the sport, culminating breaking the record of the oldest heavyweight to ever win the world title – one he holds to this day.
Such boxing royalty wants the biggest and best fights to happen for the sport, and these days that will undoubtedly involve Tyson Fury.
The WBC Heavyweight Champ has entertained fans with a 34 fight professional campaign and is yet to taste defeat. Foreman believes that being put in with his domestic rival, Anthony Joshua, is the final test for Fury.
He told TalkSPORT is has the potential to be a ‘terrible’ fight for ‘The Gypsy King.’
“The one fight I want to see before I close my eyes out of boxing is Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua. He is the only guy who can give Tyson Fury a terrible fight.
Right now, Tyson Fury is the best thing going in boxing. But, I love that. Those two guys keep me excited about boxing.”
On the surface of it, Fury and ‘AJ’ have come agonisingly close to facing off. The pair have been in ad-hoc talks on three occasions over the past three years, but a fight is yet to materialise.
The latest of those attempts was just last month, when the champion offered Joshua a shot at becoming a three-time title holder in September.
Many in the sport are still optimistic the all-British clash happens before the pair retire – and the fact that a heavyweight legend has called for it should only help.
