Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis looks set to return to the ring soon after it was reported he would defend his WBA lightweight title against Frank Martin this summer.
Davis was last in action in April 2022 in a huge pay-per-view showdown against Ryan Garcia at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Tank was a dominant winner, first dropping Garcia in round two before then finishing the fight with a body shot in the seventh round.
It handed Garcia the first defeat of his professional career, while Davis extended his unbeaten record to 29-0, with 27 of those by knockout.
The WBA lightweight crown that ‘Tank’ won back in 2019 wasn’t on the line in that bout, but it looks set to be defended in his next bout, when he reportedly faces Martin, according to ESPN journalist Mike Coppinger.
Gervonta Davis and Frank Martin have agreed to a deal for a PBC PPV fight in late spring/early summer for Tank’s WBA lightweight title, sources tell ESPN.
“Davis’ legal trouble sidelined him the second half of last year, but now he’s back vs. a legitimate top 10 lightweight.
And for Martin, it’s the sort of big fight he was looking for after he passed up the Shakur Stevenson opportunity in the fall. Tank and Martin both undefeated, and both are athletic punchers. Of course, Davis one of the biggest stars in boxing.”
Martin is also undefeated in his career with a record of 18-0, and was last in action in July 2023 when he earned a unanimous decision win over Artem Harutyunyan.
Full details on the fight including an official announcement is expected in the coming weeks.
