Gervonta Davis has been taken into custody following a reported violation of the terms of his home detention.
The undefeated lightweight stood trial recently for a hit and run incident in 2020 that saw four people injured, one being a pregnant woman.
Sentencing took place last month – May 5 – and Davis was ordered to serve 90 days home detention at the house or gym of his trainer, Calvin Ford, as well as 200 hours of community service and other programmes. He will be on probation for three years.
The Baltimore Banner, which has been close to the case throughout, now reports that Davis’ attorney, Michael Tomko, has confirmed there was an “impromptu hearing” where his client was ordered to serve out the rest of his 90-day sentence in jail.
This is due to a violation of the terms of the house arrest, but what exactly happened was not made clear. Regardless, it means ‘Tank’ will be in Baltimore County Jail for the remainder of his sentence, which will be over two months from the time of writing.
Davis is fresh off the victory of his career – a seventh round stoppage of Ryan Garcia. Since that win, he has been linked with undisputed lightweight champion, Devin Haney.
Whilst he has no fight lined up currently, the stint in custody is likely to disrupt any current training and do little to help his public image.
