BOXING’S NEW SUPERSTAR. Forget being labelled ‘mini Mike Tyson’, Gervonta Davis is the real deal in his own right, says Boxing Social’s columnist Glenn McCrory
He came, he saw and he conquered at the Copper Box on Saturday, Davis knocking out Liam Walsh in the third round
THE Copper Box this Saturday played host to the global emergence of a new boxing superstar. No longer the man they nicknamed the mini Mike Tyson, this undefeated 22 year old showed he’s not a copy of anyone. Gervonta Davis was the real deal indeed as he made the first defence of his IBF super featherweight title in blistering style, stopping the very well respected and undefeated Liam Walsh in the third round.
Expectations were high for the very likeable Cromer man, who watched proudly as his twin brother Ryan captured the British featherweight title with a very determined effort against the brave Belfast battler Marco McCullough stopping his game opponent in the 11th round.
It all boded well for a family double as Liam returned to his dressing room smiling and waving to the crown in very confident mood.
The packed crowd were then given lots more to get excited about with dominating KO performances from Frank Warren’s young warriors.
