Gennady Golovkin has been worried as of late, he didn’t know if his lucrative May 5th battle would come to fruition against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez after the Mexican Lineal middleweight titleholder tested positive for trace levels of Clenbuterol.
The thunderous punching ‘GGG’ feels the crux of the matter at hand is not what Canelo is supposedly eating but the lack of professionalism from Canelo’s team is what is actually of concern.

Golovkin believes that given the exposure and knowledge surrounding Mexico’s problems with Clenbuterol issue that the Mexican’s handlers should have taken extra caution when providing their fighter with food.
“If it was meat, or milk or food is another story.”
“The commission told us that he tested positive and it’s very bad, but I think it’s not a meat problem, it’s not just his problem, it’s a problem of his whole team.”
“If they are professionals they must understand and know what they eat, his position. it is not a problem of the meat.”
Golovkin went on to add that he believes that Canelo’s image has been tarnished following the whole saga.
“He looks very bad right now, many people see him as something negative for the sport, it is a problem of his team,” Golovkin told ESPN Deportes.

“I think Canelo is a very good athlete, a good boxer, who does not need medicine or drugs, for me it is terrible and for all athletes who respect sport, clean sport, this is not good.”
Elsewhere, Golovkin’s trainer also stressed for the need to see the issue come to a conclusive end with Canelo either being suspended or cleared.

“It would be ignorant for me to speculate,” Sanchez told Sky Sports. “I think the experts have to go through all the process of investigating, but I do think there needs to be an investigation.
“I don’t think it should be just swept under the rug. That’s not good for our sport. That’s not good for the future of our sport. I think that he needs to either be cleared, or be suspended and fined immensely, but if he’s not, then I think we present future problems for us in this game.”
