Light heavyweight hopeful Ben Whittaker takes the headline slot against Braian Suarez this Saturday at the Liverpool Arena following Callum Smith and David Morrell’s intriguing tie being cancelled due to a Smith sustaining an injury.
Whittaker makes his second appearance from Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing live on DAZN. The Olympic silver medalist made the switch from Ben Shalom’s Boxxer following a blemish on his record, a controversial technical-decision draw to Liam Cameron. Whittaker would silence many doubters with a quick second round stoppage against Cameron in a rematch filled with animosity.
Whittaker’s Matchroom debut provided more signs of optimism last November in Birmingham, scoring a first round knockout against Benjamin Gavazi, who was 19-1 (13 KOs) at the time.
The British talent has had a slowish start to his professional career since turning professional in 2022. Matchroom’s introduction alongside a change in trainer with Andy Lee is likely to see his career accelerated toward a world title shot.

Whittaker and Suarez aren’t the only two locking horns in Manchester – below is our pick of the undercard.
- Joe McGrail Vs Aaron Hayden at super bantamweight
- An all undefeated clash for the British Central Area super bantamweight title is the biggest highlight of the undercard. McGrail (12-0, 5 KOs) and Hayden (10-0, 2 KOs) both put their unblemished records on the line in an ten round contest. Hayden defeated Adam Carberry by points to claim the vacant Central Area belt last July. McGrail will be fighting in his hometown, with Hayden coming from Rawtenstall.
Whittaker vs Suarez our prediction
Whittaker should be making reasonably quick work of Suarez. The Argentine possess good experience, but every time he moves toward the elite, he tends to get knocked out. Three of his four losses come by stoppage, which include Lyndon Arthur and WBA interim champion Albert Ramirez. Whittaker’s ability is naturally higher than the majority at 175 pounds, but a slow start to his professional career does cause concern. I expect Whittaker to knockout Suarez inside four rounds with his usual showmanship. — Boxing Social reporter Adam Noble-Forcey.
