It its one of the longest active rivalries in British boxing and now Jack Catterall has updated on his potential rematch with Josh Taylor.
Taylor and Caterall fought way back in 2022 for all four of Taylor’s world super lightweight title belts. Caterall was the wide underdog but rose up many levels and managed to knock Taylor down as well as dominate for much of the fight.
However, some of the most controversial scorecards in recent times were revealed come the bell at the end of the 12th round and Taylor was given a win not many people think he deserved.
The pair have since gone back and forth over social media many times but haven’t been close to agreeing to a rematch. Taylor lost in June against Teofimo Lopez last year, while Caterall most recently defeated Jorge Linares in October when Taylor wasn’t impressed.
Speaking to IFL TV, Caterall was asked for an update.
“I think we’ve got a deal almost done. We’re waiting for silly b******s to get it signed. We’re almost there, l’m looking forward to it, we’ve been talking about it a long time and I’m looking forward to putting a nail in the coffin and getting it done.
Yeh, I’ve left that to Sam [Jones, manager] and Matchroom and I believe it’s close now. I’ll be excited when it’s done. We want to get in and fight, I’m sick of being asked about it and I’m sure he’s the same, I’m looking forward to it.”
Should the fight happen, there will be no belts on the line but simply a grudge to settle.
