Jared Anderson is riding high on heavyweight hype having stopped all 14 of his opponents inside the distance.
The Toledo native is tipped to be America’s next heavyweight ruler, and has received praise from the current world champion, Tyson Fury, among many others.
With a fearless style, fast hands and shocking power, Anderson’s fights have never gone past the sixth round. A record like that usually gives a fighter confidence that he can stop any man, but he was humble in a recent prediction.
Asked by ThaBoxingVoice what heavyweight he’d like to face, Anderson said Joe Joyce. Although confident of the victory, the American had high praise for ‘The Juggernaut’s durability.
“I gotta say it, I think it’s a unanimous decision. I said that earlier. I ain’t gonna lie. I think he take a hell of a punch. But I definitely see me doing a lot of good body work, and so that’s why I feel the fight would even out for the most part with his size and his endurance.
I’m a hell of a worker, he’s not gonna affect my tank by just coming forward.”
Having said all of that, the comments from Anderson came before Joyce’s loss to Zhilei Zhang in which the London man was stopped at the halfway stage.
‘Big Bang’ Zhang’s southpaw stance caused all sorts of problems for Joyce, the most apparent being a straight left hand that seemingly couldn’t miss.
Whilst he wasn’t put over and the stoppage was via Doctor’s advice because of a swollen eye, Anderson may just have changed his prediction since.
Joyce has activated his rematch clause with Zhang, and will do all he can to turn the tide. As for Anderson, he has his first headline slot against undefeated Zhan Kossobutskiy on July 1.
