Heavyweight Jarrell Miller, 35, has been arrested in Hollywood, Florida for carjacking without a weapon and burglary with assault.
According to WSVN, the incident took place on Tuesday at a car dealership, where it is alleged that a female approached an employee with the information that her mobile phone was inside a recently repossessed truck.
It’s at this point Miller is accused of putting that employee in a ‘chokehold’, slamming him to the ground before taking the keys and leaving in the truck. The tracker inside allowed police to find and arrest him.
Assistant State Attorney Eric Linder said it would appear Miller was to get his car back ‘by any means.’
“It is alleged that Mr. Miller first put the victim in a chokehold, then slammed him to the ground before robbing him. [The employee] was doing nothing other than his job.”
“He enlisted the assistance of another individual to create a ruse, to distract the employee.”
“It would appear that Mr. Miller, he knew what the plan was going to this business to get his car back, it would appear, by any means.”
The judge then ruled:
“Taking into account the allegations in the probable cause affidavit, the level of force that was used, as well as the manner in which the offence took place, the court does find probable cause as to both counts.”
As of writing, he remains held in Broward County Jail.
Miller became infamous on the heavyweight scene for failing anti-doping tests in the lead-up to his ill-fated fight with Anthony Joshua back in 2019. He would test positive for another banned substance a year later and be banned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for two years.
Upon returning in 2022, the Brooklyn native built up three low-level wins before returning to heavyweight boxing’s big stage in Saudi Arabia last month to test the resolve of young Daniel Dubois. The 333lbs Miller made uncomfortable for the Brit before gassing heavily and being stopped with seconds to go in the tenth and final round.
A first career loss for ‘Big Baby’, who confirmed he would fight on in the aftermath.
