Jermell Charlo caught up with FightHype.com and discussed a number of interesting topics.
The WBC light middleweight champion started off by explaining how his fighting style has altered since teaming up with the trainer, Derrick James.
Jermell Charlo has somewhat converted his style from a textbook boxer to an all-out aggressive knockout sensation.
On that topic, Charlo said ” I set out on my punches more. All that moving is done, what am I moving for? You ain’t better than me.”
“Until you become somebody that can really put a threat on my life. It is a wrap.”
“I’m coming forward and I’m going to put that pressure on you. You have to back me up!”
“I really started off as a boxer, a mover, a sticker, a hitter. I don’t like getting messed up, don’t touch me.”
“Y’all seen crazy things happen in boxing, so (my mindset) was not to get hit.”

“I got my mindset right, I want to win I don’t care what it takes.”
Jermell credited that fighting style and mindset to his former trainer, Ronnie Shields who famously led Mike Tyson’s corner for his last hurrah title shot against Lennox Lewis.
Shields also trains Jermell’s twin brother, Jermall who is the mandatory title challenger to Gennady Golovkin’s WBC middleweight title.
Not Once In My Career Have I Avoided Any Boxer, Not Once Have I Over Looked An Opponent, Nor Have I Taken The Easy Route To The CHAMPIONSHIP. Waited 3yrs At #1 Cuz Money Man Held The Title Hostage Indecisively. But Up & Down My TL I See Em Saying I Fought Nobodies #LionsOnly

“Ronnie Shields taught those skills as far as movement. Derrick James taught that power, y’all being seeing those knockouts lately. Y’all seeing Errol do the same thing I’m doing.
“You see the similarities, the combinations.”
“The coach teach us, we spend a lot of quality time teaching me. That is what I like about him.”
The last fight Charlo had was a title defence against the hard-hitting and undefeated Erickson Lubin. Reflecting on that win, Charlo expressed his surprise at the stoppage in the first round.
“I was surprised, I was getting ready for the biggest war of my life. My next fight, June 9th I will get ready for the biggest war of my life.”

“I won’t accept an opponent who is just easy. I want somebody that can punch me, I do want him to have a little chin.”
On a final note, Charlo shared an eery warning for the contenders looking at an opportunity at his title.
“They better be cool, stop talking about me and playing with me. I knock boys out! Don’t say my name and don’t run your mouth!”
