Promoter Frank Warren was not happy with fighter-turned-pundit Johnny Nelson saying Tyson Fury was a problem in the heavyweight division.
In a conversation linked to inactivity at the very top of the sport, Nelson recently said that Fury would make ridiculous excuses for not wanting to fight.
Warren called Nelson out via IFL TV, reflecting on working with him and saying it was the first time he had used the phrase ‘if he was fighting in my back garden I’d close the curtains.’
He accused Nelson of retiring rather than facing Enzo Maccarinelli, and ended the segment by saying Nelson’s opinion on Fury wasn’t needed, and advised him to ‘stop talking b***ocks.’
In a recent interview with Seconds Out, the former world cruiserweight champion said that Warren was deflecting criticism of Fury by attacking the people asking questions of him.
“Let’s remember this – I think Tyson Fury is the best out of lot of them. I think decisions that are being made are a bit stupid, a bit emotionally driven. I think it will affect him more than anybody else. He won’t lost support but he’ll get to a point where the fans will think ‘oh really? I don’t care what you’ve got to say this time, you might change your mind this week.'”
“Instead of actually answering the questions, Frank Warren tries to undermine the question askers. That’s what a kid does. Frank’s better than that. You should know better. I like you, Frank, but that was a rookie move.”
“We’re gonna answer you back. I’m not on his payroll, so I don’t have to bend over and let him kick me in the a**. I know Frank. Frank made me a champion, so I know who’s the king of talking b***ocks. He did a great job with me.”
Warren and Fury are readying a ‘game-changing’ announcement that, fans will hope, will see the champion in the ring this September.
