Joseph Parker’s promoter, Dave Higgins, caused a scene earlier today at the Joseph Parker-Hughie Fury press conference.
The Auckland based promoter showed up and accused trainer Peter Fury of having the referee and the British Boxing Board of Control ‘in his pocket’ before this weekends WBO World heavyweight title fight. Higgins was then immediately escorted out and his bodyguard was also thrown out of the press conference.
After the incident, Peter Fury commented on the allegations and so did promoter Mick Hennessy.
“You hear all this rubbish talk out of his mouth. Joseph Parker has checked gloves and his people have checked the ring. I want my son to win a world title with no hidden agendas,” said Peter Fury.
Higgins’ biggest argument is that the referee for the fight will be British.
“He has insinuated that I’ve got the Boxing Board of Control, one of the most respected governing bodies in the world, in my pocket. I have got no interest in a referee, a judge, or anything else. I’m here to see my son win a world title. All this stupid silly gossip, I’m not interested in all of that crap,” continued Fury.
