Over time, Josh Taylor’s prediction for the Jake Paul versus Tommy Fury fight has swung from one side to the other.
The WBO Super Lightweight Champion is currently nursing a foot injury, and will be tuning into the catchweight bout like plenty of other boxing fans.
Paul and Fury have been on a long and frustrating collision course, with two fight postponements and plenty of trash talk. They will finally settle things in the ring on February 26 in Saudi Arabia.
Taylor believes that the delays have benefited Paul, who has built a record of 6-0 mostly over retired MMA fighters. He told TalkSPORT that he has seen improvements.
“This one has been coming for a while and dragging on a bit. At the start I thought Tommy Fury would wipe the floor with Jake Paul because he’s just a YouTube guy and he’s not great.
“He’s still not great, but he’s improved a hell of a lot and he’s been putting in a lot of work and training with the best trainers over in America, putting in hard work.”
With that in mind, Taylor made his tentative pick – and the Fury clan won’t be happy.
“So, I think it’s actually a hard fight for Tommy. I’m actually edging a little bit towards Jake Paul with the more I’m watching and the more I’m seeing, but it wouldn’t be a great look for Tommy Fury if he gets beat.”
The bookmakers take the same view, with the American entering the ring a slight favourite.
