From the looks of things Floyd Mayweather is not ready to recognize Anthony Joshua’s accomplishments.
In the midst of promoting the Davis-Walsh fight, Floyd has been bombarded with questions about the fight against Conor McGregor but people also want to know his opinion on Joshua. Mayweather was at a media scrum at London’s York Hall and when asked about Joshua’s abilities to carry the sport, Floyd’s answer somewhat indicated that he is not sold on the current heavyweight king.
“There’s a lot of good fighters out there,” commented Floyd.
Floyd didn’t mention Joshua’s name nor did he acknowledge him in any kind of way. Instead he complimented fighters like Davis and Badou Jack.
“A lot of young, tough competitors out there. A lot of fighters giving the sport of boxing blood, sweat and tears. They’re working hard every day. You’ve got Gervonta Davis, you’ve got Badou Jack – and you have numerous other fighters that aren’t even under the Mayweather banner – working hard and giving the sport blood, sweat and tears,” said Mayweather.
Who knows? Maybe Joshua needs more big name wins on his belt so Floyd would give him props. Then again, Joshua certainly doesn’t need Mayweather’s praises. Especially with the likely rematch against Klitschko looming in the near future.
