Juan Franscisco Estrada will be making the maiden defence of his WBC super-flyweight title against Dewayne Beamon in Hermasillo, situated in the Mexican state of Sonora.
Estrada, a former unified champion at flyweight, successfully avenged his defeat to Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in a highly-anticipated rematch after Rungvisai was the beneficiary of a close majority-decision verdict, following their first meeting in February 2018.
However, in the rematch, Thai southpaw inexplicably elected to fight orthodox for much of the bout and was soundly outboxed by Estrada, who peppered his counterpart with surgically precise combination punching which threatened to stop the fight altogether on multiple occasions.
The dominant nature of Estrada’s win has prompted commentators in certain quarters to include the Mexican on their individual pound-for-pound rankings, and as a result Gallo is generally favoured to retain his title in resounding fashion this Saturday.
Not much is known of his opponent, although his record suggests that he is a somewhat heavy-handed operator, having stopped eleven of his sixteen victims. Ultimately, Estrada is a consummate professional, and it would be reasonable to expect him to dispatch of this latest opponent with relative ease en route to potential unification fights with IBF titlist Jerwin Ancajas or WBA counterpart Kal Yafai.
Croatian heavyweight hopeful Filip Hrgovic also features against Mario Heredia, while light-middleweight contender and former WBO champion Liam Smith faces Mario Alberto Lozano.
Dubliner fan favourite Jono Carroll also features against Eleazar Valenzuela after an unsuccessful IBF super-featherweight title challenge against Philadelphian Tevin Farmer, whilst Uzbek light-welterweight prodigy Shakhram Giyasov faces former WBA lightweight champion Darleys Perez in just his ninth fight.
