Katie Taylor Confirms Retirement Timeline

Two-weight undisputed champion Katie Taylor announced Wednesday that she will retire after one final fight in Dublin later this year.

In an interview with RTE, Taylor (25-1, 6 KOs) said: “We’re still trying to figure out the details, but I will have one more fight this year.”

“It’s kind of like my retirement fight.”

“It has been an amazing journey over these last 20 years, with all its highs and lows. It has been an incredible, remarkable career, and I always wanted to end it here in Ireland.”

Taylor, who won Olympic gold at the London 2012 Games, has only fought twice in her homeland. The 39-year-old lost her first professional fight in Dublin to Chantelle Cameron on May 20, 2023, by majority decision. However, Taylor overturned the defeat in a rematch five months later, again in Dublin, securing the undisputed super lightweight title by unanimous decision.

Taylor’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, is aggressively pursuing a slot at the Irish national stadium, the 82,300-capacity Croke Park.

“I just want to fight in Dublin to end my career,” Taylor said.

“Obviously, we’re still hoping for Croke Park, but if it doesn’t happen, there are plenty of other options. I’ve fought at the 3Arena a couple of times, and the Aviva Stadium is also an option. Croke Park is at the top of the list. Fighting my last fight in our most iconic arena—how special would that be? It would be absolutely remarkable if I could do that. Either way, I’ll be ending my career here, and I’m very excited about that.”

Taylor was last in action at Madison Square Garden in New York last July to conclude a trilogy with Amanda Serrano, where she won all three fights. The Irish superstar secured a majority decision victory to retain her light welterweight undisputed title.

“I think the fight will happen in July or August some time” Taylor added. “I’m not sure who the opponent is or what the date will be. I just know I’ll fight this year during the summer time and all the other details will be laid out in the coming weeks and months.”
