Lawrence Okolie has returned to destructive form with a third-round stoppage victory over the unheralded Tamas Lodi.
It was a composed start from the British champion – someone who was the subject of sustained criticism for his dour, messy hugfest against Matty Askin in September – as he experimented with different combinations and occassionally switched southpaw.
Stalking his opponent with a sharp jab, ‘Sauce’ upped the pace somewhat in the second, dropping his Hungarian counterpart twice with two well-placed shots.
After being dropped again in the third with a right hand, the admirably resillient Lodi answered the count, but referee Howard Foster clearly did not like he was seeing and elected to call it a day.
Immediately after the fight, seasoned Commonwealth champion Wadi Camacho was announced as Okolie next opponent for a May 23rd show at East London’s Copper-Box Arena, headlined by Charlie Edwards’ first defence of his WBC super-flyweight title.
The two fighters had to be separated by security as Camacho his way into the ring to confront Okolie; a precursor to what should be an intriguing domestic bout in the summer to unify the British and Commonwealth titles at cruiserweight.
