Lawrence Okolie recently announced his move up in weight and has now vowed he will do plenty of damage in his first fight.
Okolie has been out of the ring since he lost his world title to Chirs Billam-Smith via a points decision in May in Bournemouth last year.
He is the former British, Commonwealth, European and WBO World Cruiserweight champion who represented Team GB at the 2016 Rio Olympics and picked up his first cruiserweight world title in March 2021 after beating Krzysztof Glowacki by knockout.
He will be next out on May 24th when he takes on Lukasz Rozanski for the WBC Bridgerweight world title in the champion’s homeland of Poland.
Rozanski has knocked out 14 of the 15 opponents he has beaten and that includes the popular and previously unbeaten Alen Babic who he stopped in the first round in April last year. Okolie spoke to his promotional outfit Boxxer about the fight and shared his excitement.
“I’m excited to go to Poland and test myself yet again on away ground. Rozanski is a good champion, with an explosive style, but I’m coming to do some serious damage. He has never seen power like mine.”
Rozanski responded to say he would not be giving up his belt.
“I’m defending my world title in my own backyard, in my city, fighting against a former world champion. It’s a fantastic fight, for moments like these, I’ve trained hard all my life.”
This fight represents a good chance for Okolie to get back to winning ways and lift a world title in a second division.
