Mikaela Mayer and Alycia Baumgardner have signed up to fight one another in a huge super featherweight clash.
The date, venue and ticket information will be announced in the coming weeks.
In another significant match up for women’s boxing the two fighters will end their online trash talk with the winner walking away with three of the four world titles available.
Mayer (17-0, 5 KOs), promoted by Top Rank, is the current IBF and WBO champion while Baumgardner is the reigning WBC champion.
“The fight is officially on,” said Mayer.
“I’m so excited we’re able to bring this fight to you guys in a timely fashion. This is the fight I wanted, the fight I’ve been pushing for since Baumgardner beat Terri Harper about six months ago.
“It’s not the fight she wanted; we know that. She wanted to push it back, she wanted to make me wait but that’s not what women’s boxing needs. That’s not what the fans deserve, that’s not what the fans want so I can’t wait to bring this fight to you guys.
“It’s going to be great. Mayer versus Baumgardner just like I said it would be. Can’t wait to perform, defend my belts, and take hers while I’m at it.”
During fight week for her first title defence against Edith Matthysse last month Baumgardner (12-1, 7 KOs) was keen on facing WBA champion Hyun Mi Choi next before facing Mayer in an undisputed title fight.
“That fight with Mayer needs to be built just like the Amanda [Serrano] and Katie [Taylor] fight,” said the Matchroom fighter.
A month can be a long time in boxing and now Baumgardner, who won her world title with a stunning fourth round stoppage over Harper, now has the chance to take on and defeat one of the biggest names in women’s boxing.
Last night in response to the unification fight being made Baumgardner said, “One thing about me I step up to the plate! Just know this fight happened because of yours truly.”
