Nigel Benn has chimed into the argument about potential opponents for his son Conor and fired shots at his old rival Chris Eubank Sr saying ‘why would he do that to his son?’
Benn and Eubank Sr had a legendary rivalry in the nineties that was all set to be resumed by their sons in October 2022 until Conor failed two drug tests and the fight was canned, and it is a fight one former opponent thinks Benn should very much avoid.
Since then he has fought just twice, both times in the US, most recently vs Peter Dobson this month. Now he is searching for his next foe and the talk of Eubank Jr seems to have gone away as Eubank Sr suggests he would be better fighting another Eubank in Harlem.
Speaking to Fruity Slots, Benn questioned Eubank Sr’s motives for making the fight between the two sons.
“Eubank Sr keeps talking about Harlem Eubank fighting Conor, why does he keep bringing up Harlem? He’s taking food out of his own son’s mouth. I don’t get it. That’s never going to happen, we’re not going back.
“Harlem hasn’t earnt nothing yet, he hasn’t done nothing, we’re not interested. We want someone from his flesh, his son Chris Jr. That’s the big fight, not Harlem. Conor’s not even thinking about that. Why would he do that to his son?”
Instead, it very much seems right now like Gervonta Davis is the key target for Benn and his team, although he must first await the outcome of the hearing with the British Boxing Board of Control to see if he will regain a license to fight in the UK.
