It is just two months until one of the most hotly anticipated fights since the turn of the millennium, and after Tyson Fury posted footage of his early preparations for the bout, Oleksandr Usyk has fired back with a response.
Fury and Usyk were set to meet in February, until ‘The Gypsy King’ was forced to postpone the clash as a result of a freak injury in training that caused a sizeable gash above the Britons’ eye.
After rumours emerged that Usyk could move on and face Filip Hrgovic, a new date was swiftly found for the undisputed showdown and training camp is now well underway.
This week, Fury posted a video showing that he is now in camp for the battle, sharing pad footage, looking slender and speedier than the Francis Ngannou fight, possibly indicating that he is opting for a game plan similar to when he faced Wladimir Klitschko in 2015.
In response, Usyk insinuated that he had been training harder than his rival in a social media post of his own, claiming he has not stopped training for the fight since it was pushed back to May.
“Your camp just started, mine never finished.”
Fury-Usyk will go ahead on May 18th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for what is sure to be the most memorable occasion of 2024. As ever, the Saudi catalysts have provided another packed undercard, with the likes of Joe Cordina, Jai Opetaia and Sergey Kovalev all featuring.
