WBC Super-Lightweight Champion, Regis Prograis, has provided an update as to whom he may face on his next professional outing as he seeks a blockbuster bout with one of the sport’s top stars.
Prograis knocked out Jose Zepeda in emphatic style last November to regain his champion status after a loss to Josh Taylor three years prior ended his first title reign.
Last month, he made the first defence of his new belt, in a successful yet underwhelming return to his hometown of New Orleans. He edged out a split-decision victory against the unorthodox Danielito Zorrilla, but is hopeful that a more recognised opponent will bring out the best of him.
Eddie Hearn has suggested that he is close to agreeing a deal for ‘Rougarou’ to face undisputed lightweight champion, Devin Haney, but the 34-year-old told ESNEWS that terms are far from agreed and also showed interest in a clash with Ryan Garcia.
“I love the fight with me and Ryan. He took it down, I don’t know what that is about, but I love the fight with me and Ryan bro, he said to holla at him, I’ve been kind of staying off of the internet right now, but I see things. Everybody is calling me out, so I’m a hot commodity right now, we will see.”
“I absolutely love that fight [with Devin] too. The only thing about that, you have got to pay me, that’s it. I love the fight, but I’m the champion and you’ve got to pay me. I don’t know how much I can say, but so far they aren’t talking about what I am talking about. That’s a big a** fight, you’ve got to pay for that.”
It appears that Prograis will indeed get the pay-per-view encounter that he so desires, but it remains anyone’s guess as to who may be in the opposing corner.
