Teofimo Lopez will make his Super Lightweight debut on August 13 against Pedro “Roca” Campa over 10 rounds.
The fight goes down at the Resorts World Centre at Resorts World Las Vegas. Super Welterweight rising star Xander Zayas takes the co-feature slot against Elias “Latin Kid” Espadas over eight rounds.
The return of ‘The Takeover’ is a highly anticipated one with fans curious to see how he fares at his new weight nine months on from his shock defeat to George Kambosos Jr. One of 2021’s Upsets of the Year brought an end to Lopez reign as the number one Lightweight as he lost his WBA, IBF and WBO World titles which he won against Vasiliy Lomachenko one year earlier.
In a Top Rank press release Lopez says he is focused on the future as he begins his campaign to become a two-weight world champion.
“I’m thankful to be back August 13. I’ve been looking forward to this since my last fight. I’ve had a lot of complications, but we’re looking towards the future and are on to bigger and better things.”
“I’m here to take over the 140-pound division just like I did at 135. Like always, I’m going to bring excitement to the sport of boxing. The Takeover is still in full effect. You don’t want to miss it.”
Mexico’s Campa was full of praise for Lopez.
“He is a tremendous fighter. I am coming to Resorts World Las Vegas ready to implement everything I have learned with my incredible trainer, Manny Robles.”
“We’ve been in Southern California working hard and preparing for the best version of Teofimo Lopez. I believe I can be a force at 140 pounds, and it’s up to me to show that on August 13.”
US Olympians Troy Isley and Duke Ragan will also feature on the undercard.
