Many in the boxing world were disappointed with Jermell Charlo’s showing against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez this weekend and one going as far to say it was ‘embarrassing’ and is now calling out the Mexican himself saying he ‘wants that scalp’.
Charlo, who was coming up two weights, seemed to be in survival mode for most of the fight. He was on the back foot, moving away from Canelo and rarely offering any offense, only catching the undisputed super middleweight champion a couple of times across the whole 12 rounds and himself being put down once in the seventh.
After that point, Canelo seemed to grow increasingly frustrated, often marching Charlo down with his hands low and swinging in big bombs, or else holding back with his guard up high to try and entice him on so he could find any gaps.
Canelo said in the aftermath he didn’t care who was next, but Chris Eubank Jr has now firmly put his name in the hat.
In a tweet sent after the fight, he condemned Charlo and laid out his desire to fight the Mexican.
“Canelo needs to fight someone who’s going to get in there & put it on his ass. Someone who actually wants to win not just survive, secure a payday & give him a sweet lil hug after. This sh** is getting embarrassing. I don’t want a hug… I want that scalp!!’

Eubank is coming off a solid knockout victory over Liam Smith which saw him overturn a loss in the British pair’s first fight. He is now strongly rumoured to be facing the returning and resurgent Conor Benn, potentially on December 23rd.
