Ryan Garcia says he will return to the ring against Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero on April 20, live on DAZN PPV with a location yet to be finalised.
The popular 25-year-old’s rise to the top of the sport was cruelly halted by Gervonta Davis in early 2023, a body shot stoppage snatching his undefeated record and putting him firmly on the comeback trail.
Post-fight, Garcia said he would now only compete at super-lightweight, believing the 136lbs catchweight to have affected his performance.
He beat Oscar Duarte in December – an eighth round KO – to announce himself on the scene before promptly looking to organise a world title shot.
First in his sights was Devin Haney, but he later publicly cancelled those talks to target Romero, who won the WBA belt against Ismael Barroso last May and is yet to defend it.
Barroso is now his number one challenger again but, according to Garcia, terms have been reached for a voluntary defence. Posting on social media, the 24-1 challenger said an official announcement was coming soon alongside a poster for the match-up.
“4-20 Live on DAZN PPV Tickets and location soon. It’s time To enter battle once again. I understand that there has been a lot of confusion but this fight is happening. I’m happy to announce this. Everyone is going to post this soon don’t worry. I love you guys.”
The news comes amidst continued tensions between Garcia and his promoter Oscar De La Hoya.
