With both Ryan Garcia and Canelo Alvarez preparing for two of the biggest fights of 2024, the pair have decided to squash their beef, as they each aim to bring pride to the people of boxing through the medium of boxing and world titles.
Garcia trained under Canelo’s long-time trainer Eddy Reynoso, until splitting from Team Canelo in favour of a move to work under Joe Goossen in early 2022 ahead of his move up to super-lightweight.
Since then, Garcia outpointed Emmanuel Tagoe and stopped Javier Fortuna, but ultimately suffered the first loss of his career when he was famously stopped by Gervonta Davis in a catchweight bout, a contest which made Garcia switch trainers again.
Now Garcia has Derrick James in his corner, and their partnership got off to a flyer when he knocked out Oscar Duarte in December, but already the pair are scheduled for a tough test, as Garcia challenges Devin Haney for the WBC super-lightweight title next month.
On Instagram, ‘King Ry’ thanked Canelo for his help over the years, to which Alvarez wholesomely responded by saying that he and the rest of the Eddy Reynoso team are with him, ahead of the Haney clash.
RG: “No amount of hate can separate our Mexican bond @canelo.
Thank you Canelo for all the lessons and teachings you gave me. Also thank you to @caneloteam for all the training you helped me with, forever grateful and thankful! From the bottom of my soul.
I’m going to bring the WBC title back home VIVA MEXICO.”
CA: “Just focus and get that win, you know we love you kind.”
RG: “My big brother! No matter what I’m with you. You taught me a lot. No one can tell me otherwise. I will always respect you.”
CA: “Always with the intention to help from the heart, we are with you anyway.”
Haney-Garcia takes place on April 20th, whilst Canelo fights Jaime Munguia just two weeks later.
