Former two-weight world champion Billy Joe Saunders has responded to Chris Eubank Jr’s comments about him in their latest round of verbal shots.
Eubank Jr, who returns to the ring against Sven Elbir on October 2 on Sky Sports, told talkSPORT that his long-term rival quit in the loss to Canelo Alvarez in May and that Saunders has no credibility in boxing. The 31-year-old also responded to his demands of £5m for a rematch from their British, Commonwealth and European middleweight title fight seven years ago which Saunders won via split decision.
“He has no credibility, he has no power in the sport so he can’t be saying he wants £5m, he’ll get what he’s given. I’m the A-side and once he understands that we can talk,” said Eubank Jr.
Saunders has been fairly quiet since retiring on his stool against Canelo in May but did ensure he landed his own jab on Eubank Jr via Instagram.
“You never won a world title because you’re shit. You got 75 grand last time we boxed, and your dad took 30. Bum. I’m your pay day little boy and you many never get a chance to get that win. Back [to] boxing bin men.”
Eubank Jr’s co-promoter Kalle Sauerland claims that his man will land a big pay-per-view fight this December. The super-middleweight had been linked to an unusual looking domestic clash against former IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook, but the rumour mill appears to have slowed on that front. Saunders seems undecided as to whether or not he will return to boxing but a large pay day and the opportunity to get one over on his biggest rival once again may prove too good to turn down.
