Rumours have been growing that Ryan Garcia’s mental state means he will not be able to compete against Devin Haney on April 20 and now Shakur Stevenson has offered to step in to help solve the uncertainty.
There has been growing concern for Garcia given his behaviour in the last few days since the press tour began to promote his fight with Haney.
It is a world title contest for the WBC super-lightweight belt owned by The Dream, who was also undisputed in the division below, and is Garcia’s second big step up after he took on but lost to Gervonta Davis last year.
So far during the promotion, Garcia has arrived on a horse to one conference, leaked footage of Haney sparing Davis, has berated the ticket price for the fight, and complained about where it is being held.
That isn’t all, as he has also been accused of being drunk by Haney, has insulted Haney’s religion and then posted a video calming he cannot access his phone or his money.
Unbeaten WBC lightweight world champion Stevenson has responded to that latest video post on X, asking to take Garcia’s place.
“Sub me in Coach 🙋🏾♂️.. Prayers up Lil bra'”
He then backed that up with another post putting himself forward.
“Hopefully they hit me I’m the only person who make sense if they want to keep the ball rolling 😈”
A fight between Stevenson and Haney would be a good replacement should Garcia pull out of the fight, though nothing has yet been confirmed either way.
