Shakur Stevenson expands on Devin Haney fight rumors after earlier reaction

Shakur Stevenson has long been linked with Devin Haney for a potential fight, and the rumors have been surfacing. However, Stevenon has completely shut it off on his social media. He addressed what happened and the situation as a whole.

The talks ignited when The Ring Magazine reporter Mike Coppinger reported that Stevenson and Haney are in preliminary talks.

The WBO super lightweight champion was quick to address the reports and dismissed them on his X post.

In a recent episode of ‘The Agnew Podcast,’ Stevenson was asked about the whole fight linked to the Haney situation. He has dismissed the claim, stating that he has not been involved in any discussions, and expressed surprise, saying he immediately contacted his team for clarification.

“I don’t know nothing about it… I didn’t know anything about it,” Stevenson said. “When I hit my team, I asked them, is this true, what’s going on, why nobody told me? They said no, we ain’t had no conversation.”

His response casts doubt on the validity of the initial report, suggesting that any negotiations may not have involved his side at all.

Stevenson points to possible connection behind rumors

The lightweight champion also hinted at where the rumors may have originated, pointing to Coppinger’s close relationships with the team Haney.

“I understood where it came from… he got really close with Team Haney,” he added. “So I don’t know exactly the reasoning behind it, but I know he close with Team Haney.”

Stevenson suggested that the connection could explain how the narrative gained momentum.

Despite shutting down current talks, the idea of Stevenson vs. Haney remains one of the most intriguing matchups in boxing. As both ranked highly in the pound-for-pound conversation

For now, Stevenson made his position clear.

“For me personally, I ain’t hear nothing about it,” he said.

In his most recent bout, Stevenson fought Teofimo Lopez at Madison Square Garden in January. He put on an absolutely dominating performance and secured a 119-109 unanimous decision victory to claim the WBO super lightweight belt. Later, he was stripped of his WBC lightweight belt in February. He is unbeaten with 25 victories, in which he stopped 11 opponents.

As for Haney, he has been out of action since his unanimous decision victory over Brian Norman Jr. in November. He holds a perfect professional record of 33 victories, out of which 15 came via knockouts.

While Stevenson has dismissed the current rumors, the demand for a showdown with Haney remains strong, and it may only be a matter of time before talks become more concrete. As of now, the lightweight champion is on the lookout for his next opponent.
