Fighters React To Shakur Stevenson In ‘Worst Fight Of The Year’: “Can’t Keep My Eyes Open”

Shakur Stevenson became a three-weigh world champion on Thursday night in Las Vegas, but he didn’t do it in style.

The 26-year-old southpaw scored a unanimous decision victory over the Dominican Republic’s Edwin De Los Santos, staying well out of the way of anything coming back at him.

In doing so, he picked up the WBC lightweight belt recently vacated by Devin Haney.

Post-fight, Stevenson was booed and said that he didn’t feel right before the first bell, but did what he had to do to win the title.

“I had a bad performance tonight, that’s all I’m focused on. I wasn’t feeling too good. I’ll live with it, it’s okay. I came here, got the victory, and that’s all I wanted to do.”

The Newark native landed just 60 punches across twelve rounds – in his last fight he landed 123 in six – and De Los Santos landed 40, the lowest ever in Compubox’s records. Many fans online branded it ‘the worst fight of the year.’

Given Stevenson is vocal on social media himself, it’s no surprise that some of his rivals were quick to stick the boot in.
