Three-division and current WBC lightweight world champion Shakur Stevenson has clapped back at Ryan Garcia after the 140lb contender claimed that he is nothing special and declared that nobody is in boxing is scared of him.
Stevenson defeated Edwin De Los Santos back in November to pick up a world title in a third weight-class, but some believe his dull performance has seemingly caused him more harm than good, despite picking up the win.
Fans feel his superstardom and pay-per-view draw has potentially taken hit, meaning none of the other fighters at the forefront of boxing are willing to take him on, frustrating Stevenson to the point where he announced his retirement at the age of just 26-years-old.
During an interview with The Breakfast Club, Ryan Garcia laughed off a proposed fight with Stevenson, believing him to not be in the same conversation as stars such as Gervonta Davis and himself.
“Nobody is scared of Shakur, bruh.
“Nobody on the street has ever been like ‘yo, Shakur and you would be crazy’.
“He is a good boxer, but it is nothing that stands out to me. OK, you know how to move, but it is nothing like Tank [Gervonta Davis] or me. I’ve been watching all my life, I know the ones that are different [level], he is not different.”
In response, Stevenson took to social media to call Garcia out and went on to reveal that he would be willing to fight him at super-lightweight.
“Lol, if this ain’t the most scariest s**t I done heard. Can you beat me or not? Everything else is irrelevant Scary Ryan – And that’s why you would give everyone else an opportunity besides me.
“No, I don’t [want him to come down to 135lbs], I would fight him at 140lbs.”
Garcia will first challenge Devin Haney for the WBC super-lightweight crown, but a potential Stevenson bout could be on the table afterwards.
