The bout between undefeated Shakur Stevenson and Mexico’s William Zepeda, originally set for February 22, 2025, has been postponed.
According to renowned reporter Elie Seckbach, the fight was delayed due to an injury Zepeda sustained in his most recent match.
Eric Gómez, a representative of Golden Boy Promotions, confirmed that Zepeda injured his hand during his victory over Tevin Farmer.
This fight took place on November 16, 2024, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and ended with a split decision in Zepeda’s favor after ten rounds.
“No, so Zepeda suffered an injury. He hurt his hand. We are looking to see when to reschedule that because (Shakur is) the fight Zepeda wants,” Gómez stated.
Both fighters remain undefeated and are considered among the top lightweight boxers today.
Shakur Stevenson, the current WBC world champion, boasts a flawless record of 22 wins (10 by knockout) with no losses or draws.
In his most recent fight, held on July 6, 2024, in Newark, Stevenson defeated Germany’s Artem Harutyunyan by unanimous decision after 12 exciting rounds.
On the other hand, William Zepeda holds an impressive record of 32 wins (27 by knockout) and also remains unbeaten with no draws.
The news of this fight being rescheduled creates uncertainty but also keeps fans eagerly awaiting the matchup.
Although no new official date has been announced, Golden Boy Promotions insists that this showdown remains a top priority.
In recent posts on his official “X” account, Stevenson lashed out at Zepeda and Golden Boy Promotions, the promotion company led by Oscar De La Hoya.
Stevenson has claimed they are afraid of him.
“I think all y’all are soft, y’all so scared for that boy to get in the ring wit me 😤 U was talking real big in that interview, talk that talk fake Mexicans!!” Stevenson wrote.
The postponement of the fight is just a minor delay in a battle that could determine the best in the division.
For now, fans will have to wait and see if a clash between Shakur Stevenson and William Zepeda will finally take place.
“Is he(Shakur Stevenson) fighting (William)Zepeda in February?”
Eric Gomez: “No, so Zepeda suffered an injury(in his fight with Tevin Farmer). He hurt his hand. We are looking to see when to reschedule that because that’s the fight Zepeda wants”
