Heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte will square off against former WBO World heavyweight champion Joseph Parker at The O2 Arena on July 28th, in a stunning deal that will be unveiled this morning at a press conference in London.
Parker, who is a well-known figure among British boxing fans following his unsuccessful attempt at unifying the division against Anthony Joshua, represents a stiff challenge for the Brixton man.
As well as being a well-matched contest, it will no doubt be especially well-received due to the popular ‘Bodysnatcher’ yet again displaying his willingness to test himself, instead of protecting his lofty ranking with the sport’s governing bodies.
With Whyte recently embroiled in a messy purse bid with Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev, his next move had been shrouded in doubt.
Nevertheless, Parker’s announcement will undoubtedly take fans of the sport by complete surprise, with the New Zealander strongly-linked with American contender Bryant Jennings in recent days, while Whyte had also been rumoured to face Cuban heavyweight contender Luis Ortiz.
However, it would appear that a last-minute deal had been struck between Eddie Hearn and Duco Events promoter David Higgins to bring the two men together. In doing so, the at-times-controversial promotional duo take not only the boxing world by surprise, but take many a deserved plaudit along the way.
