Errol Spence Jr is gearing up for the fight of his life against Terence Crawford after comprehensively losing their first contest.
The predictions that it would be a 50/50 affair were wrong come fight night, with Crawford putting in the performance of a career to beat Spence convincingly and stop him in the ninth.
Danny Garcia, who was beaten over the distance by Spence back in 2020, spoke to Fight Hub TV about how it differed from his initial prediction.
“I had mixed emotions about the fight, just because both of them are mentally strong, both of them on top of their game, basically.
Going into it, I thought it was a 50/50 fight for that reason. I made a prediction that Crawford would win because he’s got the better defence. I said it was gonna be a one-sided fight – and I meant that for either or.”
Garcia – who is a two-weight world champion himself – then went on to say that many factors were at play for Spence, who is ‘not the same fighter he was’ following a serious car accident in 2019.
“I think it was a domino effect for Spence. The car accident, then he trained, sparred, fought me – cause a lot of people don’t know you don’t really take a lot of punishment during the fight, you take a lot of punishment during training.
Then training for Ugas, another hard training camp, fought Ugas, then a fifteen month lay-off. And another car accident. [All of it] finally caught up to him, and he’s been at that weight for a long time.
I don’t think he’s the same fighter.”
Spence has officially activated his rematch clause, and fans can expect more news soon as to the weight and date for the second fight.
