Subriel Matias is set to defend his IBF junior welterweight title for the second time in a contest that will be shown live worldwide on DAZN.
This bout will mark something of a homecoming for Matias as he returns to Puerto Rico for the first time since claiming his world title early last year. The 31-year-old’s last fight was in November 2023, when he successfully defended his title against Shohjahon Ergashev.
A message posted on X by Matchroom confirms that he will be next out on June 15 when he takes on Liam Paro.
“He’s Home 🇵🇷👑 KO King Subriel Matias defends his IBF World Junior Welterweight Title against @ParoLiam in Puerto Rico 🔥 #MatiasParo live on @DAZNBoxing, Jun 15”
Paro is an undefeated fighter who secured his spot in this title challenge by defeating Montana Love in December. Paro’s victory sets the stage for his first shot at a world championship. Speaking via Matchroom Boxing, Matias expressed his excitement for the contest.
“I am super excited to be able to be in front of my people defending the title that we had such a hard time getting. The mentality will always be the same and in front of my people I don’t even have to say it, they know me. The Pride of Maternillo.”
Paro also said he is looking forward to his first world title shot.
“I’ve waited my whole life for this opportunity. Fighter’s fight and I can’t wait to fight the boogeyman in his backyard.”
Matias is currently 20-1 and has knocked out every opponent he has beaten so will be looking to keep up that run come June.
