The brother of Tommy Fury has put an end to any speculation that his fight with Jake Paul is scripted, after social media post claimed that it was.
Mike Perry – an MMA fighter who was named as the step-in opponent by Paul should Fury not deliver – shared a low quality image of the ‘fight script’ to insinuate that proceedings were planned and rigged.
The document made ridiculous claims to the point of parody, including a planned eye injury for Fury and ridiculous ringwalk outfits. Still, as it is with social media, it did the rounds and some believed.
Shane Fury, brother to Tommy and a key part his team, told IFL TV that it was ‘bulls**t.’
“I’ve had a WhatsApp saying Tommy’s getting 7 million to take a dive or to lost on point. Listen, if Tommy can win, Tommy’s winning … That’s a load of bulls**t.”
He went on to say that never in his time in the sport had he witnessed anything of the sort, especially with his other brother, Tyson.
“You hear a lot about fights being rigged, with other teams and that. Tyson’s been in boxing for 15 years, say around that time, and no one’s ever come with any skullduggery or anything … I’ve never seen it.”
In truth, it seems that nobody knows what’s going to happen come the main event.
This is due to the little fans have seen of both men, the level of their competition, and a genuine confidence from each of them that they will win with complete ease.
The two stars are set to make their ringwalks in Saudi Arabia around 10PM for their eight-round 185lb clash, with the winner set to be introduced into the WBC’s cruiserweight rankings.
